APIC introduces infection prevention competency model
To meet the demands of the rapidly expanding field of infection prevention, and equip professionals for the challenges of the future, APIC introduced their first model for infection preventionist (IP) competency. The model outlines the skills needed to advance the infection prevention field and was created to help direct the IP’s professional development at all career stages.

HHS, APIC, SHEA announce Partnership in Prevention Award
APIC and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) are partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish the 2012 Partnership in Prevention Award. Nominations will be accepted through August 17, 2012.

Apply for leadership positions within APIC and CBIC
The APIC Nominating and Awards Committee (NAC) has opened the call for applications for APIC elected office, NAC, and candidates for the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) Board of Directors for terms beginning January 2013. The deadline for submitting candidate applications is May 2, 2012.

APIC, SHEA issue position paper on role of infection preventionists and healthcare epidemiologists in antimicrobial stewardship
Infection preventionists and healthcare epidemiologists play key roles in promoting effective antimicrobial stewardship in collaboration with other health professionals, according to a joint position paper published today by APIC and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) in their respective peer-review journals, the American Journal of Infection Control and Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.
