Surveillance Definition of health care-associated infection and criteria
for specific types of infections in the acute care setting.
August 23, 2004: On May 20, 2004, the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) published a final rule establishing donor
eligibility criteria for donors of human cells, tissues, and cellular
and tissue-based products, to help prevent the transmission of
communicable disease when these products are transplanted. Simultaneous
to the issuance of this final rule, the FDA released a draft guidance
providing recommendations for complying with the requirements of its
donor eligibility rule. On August 23, 2004, APIC submitted formal
comment on this proposed guidance document. To view the APIC
