The Current IIPW Initiative
-
Led by APIC since the program’s creation in the mid
1980’s, International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) is
held:
To bring worldwide attention to the impact and importance of infection
prevention and control through legislative proclamations, activities and
media coverage
-
To educate health care professionals, patients and the
community
-
To honor infection prevention and control professionals
In an historic sign of solidarity, this year’s initiative is
supported collectively by related foundations, affiliates, legislatures,
and industry from around the globe.
How it all Began
In 1986, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the third week in October
as National Infection Control Week and called all 'federal, state, and
local government agencies, health organizations, communications, media,
and people' to take part in educational activities and programs during
this designated week.
Since its creation, APIC has continued the tradition of celebrating
Infection Control Week. Each year, we a free online toolkit of useful
materials and ideas. In recent years, we've collaborated with a
corporate sponsor to bring you a series of educational pamphlets on a
variety of important and timely topics.
Moving forward, APIC promises to be your partner in your educational
efforts by continuing to provide you with the ideas, materials, and
support you need during International Infection Prevention Week and
every week.
