Protect Your Patients. Protect Yourself.
Influenza Immunization Among Health Care Workers: An APIC Member Initiative

APIC encourages infection control specialists to use materials featured in the influenza immunization resource kit, called “Protect Your Patients. Protect Yourself.”

Influenza Toolkit

APIC’s "Protect Your Patients. Protect Yourself." program features a variety of helpful resource materials infection control specialists can use to encourage health care institutions to implement or expand their health care worker immunization programs.

Materials in this kit range from suggested approaches for proposing in-house immunization programs to institutional management to sample communications tools, designed to help institutions reach health care workers with information about the importance of annual influenza immunization and to promote in-house influenza immunization programs sponsored by employers.

Influenza (commonly called “the flu”) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Infection with influenza viruses can result in illness ranging from mild to severe and life-threatening complications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 5% to 20% of U.S. residents get the flu each year: an average of 114,000 people are hospitalized for flu-related complications and 36,000 Americans die each year from complications of flu.

Tips to Prevent and Fight the Flu: This brochure, available for free download, is perfect for education in healthcare facilities, classrooms, or an office.
