State and local health departments receive funding to prevent and fight infectious diseases

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced awards of $48.8 million made available through the Affordable Care Act and Prevention and Public Health Fund to boost epidemiology, laboratory, and health information systems in the health departments of all 50 states, Puerto Rico, The Republic of Palau, the District of Columbia, New York City, Los Angeles County, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Houston. The awards are for the third year of funding under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Disease Cooperative Agreements.
