Healthcare supply company Covidien alerted healthcare providers that its Endo GIA Articulating 60-3.5 Surgical Stapler Reloads with lot number N3B0165LX, were stolen before the devices could be sterilized. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that the stolen devices have been offered for sale, thus increasing the risk of infection for patients if these non-sterile products are used. Facilities are encouraged to check their current inventories, and if they have an affected product it should not be used and Covidien and the FDA Office of Criminal Investigations should be contacted.
